My Kingdom for a Magic Pencil

Beauty in the day: in the eye of the Perfect Storm (i.e., Summer School challenges) one can always find a reason to pull something out of thin air. Take, for instance, the kid who needed a “time out” break, and wanted to color. Not having a bead on the whereabouts of the crayons, I gave him a pencil. He was unimpressed, and was preparing to hold out for the colorful drawing implements. “Okay, but this pencil might be the one that I had that is magic, just so you know. Of course, we won’t be able to tell until you give it a try though.”
He abandoned the crayon request and set to work.
