Beauty in the day: being reminded that everyone has a viewpoint – everyone has a perspective. Today I see many pictures of planes flying into towers; when I see this, I am only saddened by the insidiousness of such an act. I am reminded of the hurt and pain that so many people felt at their incomprehensible loss – nearly 1,200 of them muslims, who were innocent. I am saddened further to think that those people are now reliving the rejection brought on by fear, as they listen to Americans once again treat them as infidels. It should not be. It should never be.
If you are feeling fearful, there is only one thing that can rid you of it:
Beauty in the day: the knowledge and conviction that each day has just enough difficulty for me to to be focused on, without being compelled to solve tomorrow’s trauma in advance.
Beauty in the day: while no one would argue with the idea that we need to tap into thankfulness all the time, I’m thankful for a month in which we pause a little more often to remind ourselves of the things we are, well, thankful for.
Beauty in the day: we have rehearsals for the kid’s Christmas Program on Sunday afternoons. After practice, the director likes to engage us in “highlights”, which consists of people sharing compliments about one another’s work for that day. Naturally, it’s everyone’s favorite part. Today, one young boy was picked up early by his dad, because of a previous engagement. We all continued with our rehearsal until it was time to be done. At “highlights” time, the director shared that the boy had pulled her aside to share his compliment about another boy before he left. And it made that other boy’s day.
I love that giving a compliment was such a joyful priority. He didn’t even get to stick around to hear if anyone complimented him. 💗
Beauty in the day: I like it when the word-of-the-day is “kindness”. It’s a good word.
Beauty in the day: God usually shows up in my car. On the way to work. He reminds me of stuff – blessings, mostly. A lot of the time, those blessings are attached to some hard trials. There’s gold to be had, folks. If I cry on the way to work, that’s usually because I found the gold.
Beauty in the day: in this truly harried day, I found several little beauty moments; like the kid who told me that the best thing about a school that collects box tops is that he eats A LOT of cereal; like the kid that showed up wearing safety glasses to go with his safety gloves; but my favorite is the story behind this picture of my (absolutely adorable) granddaughter. The drawing is of a lion, she says, and her beautiful mom (okay, I’m taking a little smidgen of credit for that) reports that Jaffrey is “very into the Lion King”. I’m told that Jaffrey thinks that the song lyrics are “Oh, I just can’t wait to meet The King!”
