Beauty in the day: there were two of them, standing in front of my desk this morning before school started. One has been there many, many times, his daily mission to talk to me before line-up. The other is a new student, sweet and quiet; it’s unexpected that she wants to visit – but she does.
He started it out. “Ms. Nordstrom, I would like a fidget spinner. ” This is in reference (as my story will show) to a well-used fidget spinner that is on display in my window. It’s not there to torture the students – much.
“I don’t have fidget spinners here!”
He begged to differ, as he inclined his head with a tilt toward the one on display.
“Oh, that’s MY fidget spinner. But I don’t have any for students here.”
No matter – he was nonplussed. “I would like a USB.”
A USB? He wants a USB? I looked confused. He inclined his head again and tilted it toward my window, where there were 2 USB flash drives. One belonged to a parent who had left it behind the day before, and one was mine.
“That’s MY USB. I don’t have USB’s for students here.”
While he thought of his next request, shy girl pipes in. “I want that Griffin!” She pointed to the Eagle statue in my window.
“Well, that’s actually an Eagle. And it belongs to the school, so I can’t give it to you.”
As equally prepared to continue as the boy, she asked if I had any extra harmonicas. 🙄
There are no harmonicas in my window display.
I sent them to line up. 🤷🏻♀️
Beauty in the day: checked my moon phase app today. Nope. No full moon until Wednesday. Checked it again later in the day to see if it was Wednesday yet. Nope – still Monday. It may be a long week… So lucky it’s Teacher Appreciation Week! (whew!)
Oh yeah – the beauty – right – – –
After school I remembered to ask my boss a question I’ve been trying to remember to ask him, but have continued to forget. – – WHY does Chas put a half-eaten apple core behind his tire each morning? It’s not like he’s parked on a hill or anything….
“Oh THAT,” he said. “Well, after I came to work here, I was eating my apple on the way to work like I’ve always done, but I used to throw the core in the bushes, where deer would come and eat them. But I can’t do that here, because the bushes belong to people’s yards. So the first time, I just laid it next to my tire, and figured I’d take care of it later, when I went home. But after work, I noticed that the apple had been pecked at quite a bit by birds. I started leaving it out there for the birds, but they didn’t really eat it all, and I realized it was just too big an item. So I started putting it behind my tire, so that when I leave after work, I back over it and crush it, and then the birds can easily eat it.”
No – for reals, you guys.
Beauty in the day: my doggie has taken a very upward turn. I’ve been waiting for this (and checking the yard well for the “evidence” that has been lacking until today). And it’s made a difference, let me tell you! Happy dog is back, and next week his stitches can come out. This can surely help to offset the disturbingly bad news that the “maintenance light of death”, as well as the “engine light of death” have appeared on my car’s dashboard. “Dear God, please don’t let it cost too much!”
But who of you thought that my beauty today would involve, well…….poop?💩
