Moonlighting

Beauty in the day: Snow Moon, penumbral lunar eclipse, and the New Year’s comet. For some, these things are celestial delights; for some, they are warning signs of possible difficulties. For educators, these things are the events that give allowance for “ah-ha” and “make it work” moments. It’s funny how a tough day can really get stacked up until you discover that there is a full moon. Then it’s, “okay, cool; I’ve got this”, and sleeves are rolled up with a sense of purpose. Full moons bring out all the color and character of the night sky, and it seems to do the same for schools.
It’s a grace-giver.
Who wouldn’t want that?

Moonstruck

Beauty in the day: some of you may be unaware that today is a full moon. I am not unaware of this. I am very aware of this. I mean, I work in a school, so….
But, if there were any lingering doubts in my mind as to the accuracy of the moon phase app on my phone (there aren’t any), there are 4 children on my street who have decided to engage in a game of “Howl For as Long as You Can And Keep On Doing It”. For the record, they are pretty darn good at it.

Moonlighting

Beauty in the day: first off, let me tell you that I checked my moon phase app today. That should tell you something right there. The fact that we are NOT in a Full Moon phase might tell you a little something about the nagging feeling that now gnaws at our insides, knowing that the fullness is yet to arrive. Seeing us laugh about it might tell you a little something about the tough skills that are commonplace where I work. Just another day. Bring it on, Friday.
