Working Girls

Beauty in the day: it was another clinic visit for cutie-patootie, who has had a running tab in “I don’t feel good” days. The nurse thought to distract her with an offer of a few pretzels, which she accepted gratefully. As the nurse set about the (apparently) arduous task of laying out a pretzel snack, Little Miss asked her, “I’m not making you work too hard, am I?”
Now, I heard all of you “Awwww” collectively, but a short while later, I offered to give her mom a call, and as I (apparently) arduously dialed the number, she thanked me and asked sweetly, “I’m not making you work too hard, am I?”
We knew we’d been had.

It’s Complimentary

Beauty in the day: we have rehearsals for the kid’s Christmas Program on Sunday afternoons. After practice, the director likes to engage us in “highlights”, which consists of people sharing compliments about one another’s work for that day. Naturally, it’s everyone’s favorite part. Today, one young boy was picked up early by his dad, because of a previous engagement. We all continued with our rehearsal until it was time to be done. At “highlights” time, the director shared that the boy had pulled her aside to share his compliment about another boy before he left. And it made that other boy’s day.
I love that giving a compliment was such a joyful priority. He didn’t even get to stick around to hear if anyone complimented him. 💗

Don’t Call Us, We’ll Call You

Beauty in the day: today was a long one. A really long one. Toward the end of the day it was determined that a lot of phone calls would need to be made. A LOT. And while said phone calls were being made and messages were being left, phone calls began coming IN, to answer said messages. At one point I decided I ought to check said messages. Three were hang-ups, two were random crowd voices, one was a man who said, “I need to talk to the Office Staff”, and then hung up, one was (I’m pretty sure) the same man who then said, “I need to talk to the Office Staff at Ardmore,” and then hung up, two were loud (very loud) chewing and crunching noises, and one was a response to the message I had left. The beauty part was that out of 8 messages, I only had to do anything with 1 of them. 😉
T minus 5 days to liftoff.

Summer School A-Go-Go

Beauty in the day: sooooooo…..there are always many facets to Summer School – in the end, much like regular school, with different problems to solve; different conundrums to face; different victories to celebrate. Sometimes success looks a little bit like a million phone calls made and answered. Sometimes a girl with “boing-boing curls” gives the afternoon clinic a second try – and gets the same treatment. Sometimes 101 little problems get solved one by one, and sometimes a big ol’ problem can get solved all at once. Sometimes it takes elbow grease, sometimes a helpful bit of intel, and sometimes it takes nose plugs and a custodian. All of these (and more) are components to a successful day in the world of Summer School. Or regular school. This is how we do it. 😊
